Custom Select for Twitter Bootstrap 3

Live Demo: Custom Select for Twitter Bootstrap 3 Live Demo

Custom Select for Twitter Bootstrap 3 is a jQuery plugin that enhances the functionality of standard select input fields within your Twitter Bootstrap 3 website. This plugin seamlessly integrates with Bootstrap's design aesthetic, transforming ordinary dropdown menus into visually appealing and user-friendly custom selects. By utilizing this plugin, you can elevate the overall look and feel of your web application while providing a more engaging experience for your users.

Why Use It?

This plugin offers a multitude of benefits:

• Bootstrap 3 Integration: It seamlessly applies the Twitter Bootstrap 3 style to your select input fields, ensuring visual consistency throughout your website.
• Native Behavior Preservation: Despite the enhanced visual presentation, the plugin retains the native functionality of the select input field. You can still submit selected values using GET or POST methods.
• Easy Styling: The plugin allows for easy customization of the select's appearance through CSS, enabling you to tailor it to your specific design requirements.
• Default Bootstrap Styling: By default, the plugin leverages Bootstrap 3's button styling and field sizing class names, providing a quick and straightforward integration. However, these defaults can be overridden with your own custom styles.
• Attribute Preservation: The plugin carefully preserves all attributes of the original select element and populates them on the generated input field, ensuring data integrity.

Additional Features

• Dropdown Positioning: The plugin intelligently positions the dropdown menu above the select field if there is insufficient space below it, ensuring optimal display regardless of layout constraints.
• Keyboard Navigation: Users can easily navigate through the select options using keyboard shortcuts (up/down arrows, Enter, Tab).
• Character-Based Navigation: The plugin supports quick navigation through options based on the first character of each option, enhancing user efficiency.
• Change Event Support: The plugin fires a "change" event when the selected option is changed, allowing you to implement dynamic actions or updates based on user selections.
• Dynamic Control: The plugin provides methods for enabling/disabling the entire select or individual options, giving you granular control over user interactions.
• Value Manipulation: Methods are available for dynamically getting and setting the selected value, enabling seamless integration with your application logic.
• Option Management: The plugin allows for the dynamic addition and removal of options, providing flexibility in managing your select content.
• Typeahead Functionality: The plugin can be customized to filter options based on user input, providing a typeahead or autocomplete-like experience.
• Scrollbar Integration: When numerous options are available, the plugin can display a scrollbar, ensuring smooth navigation through a large list of choices.

Conclusion

The "Custom Select for Twitter Bootstrap 3" plugin is a valuable tool for developers looking to enhance the visual appeal and user experience of their websites built with Twitter Bootstrap 3. Its combination of Bootstrap integration, native functionality preservation, and extensive customization options makes it a versatile solution for a wide range of web development projects.
